XAUUSD lot size calculator
Enter your balance, the share of it you choose to risk, and your stop distance. The calculator returns the position size in lots, rounded down to your broker’s lot step, and the dollars that size puts at risk. It assumes a US-dollar account.

How the XAUUSD position size is calculated
Position sizing on gold is three multiplications and a division. First, the risk budget: your balance times the percentage you chose, divided by 100. A $10,000 balance at 1 % is a $100 budget. That percentage is yours to set; this page makes no recommendation about it.
Second, the loss per lot. On XAUUSD one standard lot is usually 100 troy ounces, so every $1.00 the price moves changes the value of one lot by $100. A stop $5.00 away therefore costs $500 per lot. If you measure the stop in points, the calculator first converts it to price with the point size: 500 points at 0.01 is $5.00.
Third, the size: the budget divided by the loss per lot. $100 ÷ $500 is 0.20 lots. The result is rounded down to the broker’s lot step, never up, so the money at risk stays at or under the budget. If the rounded size is smaller than the minimum lot, no size fits and the calculator says so rather than rounding up to the minimum.
What the arithmetic leaves out: spread, commission and slippage all add to a real loss, and a stop can fill beyond its price in a fast market or over a weekend gap. Contract sizes also differ between brokers, which is why that field is editable. Check the symbol’s specification in MetaTrader 5 before you rely on any figure here.
